چکیده

This paper describes a suite of metrics that we use to evaluate our JUPITER system which provides worldwide weather information over the telephone. Since May, 1997, we have made the system available to the general public via a toll-free number and have collected approximately 35,000 utterances to date. These data have proven invaluable for system development and evaluation. Because JUPITER makes use of many component spoken language technologies, we evaluate each as a stand-alone system. However, JUPITER must also be evaluated as to how it accomplishes its main goal, that of understanding user queries and providing an informative response. This requires an evaluation that takes into account how these various technologies t together in an end-to-end fashion. We will describe an automated end-to-end evaluation system we have implemented and compare it to a subjective evaluation conducted by hand.

Improving English Conversational Telephone Speech Recognition

The goal of this work is to build a state-of-the-art English conversational telephone speech recognition system. We investigated several techniques to improve acoustic modeling, namely speaker-dependent bottleneck features, deep Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BLSTM) recurrent neural networks, data augmentation and score fusion of DNN and BLSTM models. Training set consisted of the 300 ho...

Recognizing Call-center Speech Using Models Trained from Other Domains

In this paper, we introduce a new conversational speech task – recognizing call-center speech – using data collected from Dragon’s own technical support line. We compare performance of models trained from conversational telephone speech (the Switchboard corpus) and models trained from predominantly read, microphone speech, and report on a series of experiments focusing on adapting the microphon...

New features in the CU-HTK system for transcription of conversational telephone speech

This paper discusses new features integrated into the Cambridge University HTK (CU-HTK) system for the transcription of conversational telephone speech. Major improvements have been achieved by the use of maximum mutual information estimation in training as well as maximum likelihood estimation; the use of a full variance transform for adaptation; the inclusion of unigram pronunciation probabil...

Large Scale Mmie Training for Conversational Telephone Speech Recognition

This paper describes a lattice-based framework for maximum mutual information estimation (MMIE) of HMM parameters which has been used to train HMM systems for conversational telephone speech transcription using up to 265 hours of training data. These experiments represent the largest-scale application of discriminative training techniques for speech recognition of which the authors are aware, a...

Telephone-based conversational speech recognition in the JUPITER domain

This paper describes our experiences with developing a telephone-based speech recognizer as part of a conversational system in the weather information domain. This system has been used to collect spontaneous speech data which has proven to be extremely valuable for research in a number of different areas. After describing the corpus we have collected, we describe the development of the recogniz...
